Booking now for Maesteg’s first ever Photomarathon Calling all smartphone snappers, budding David Baileys and professional photographers to pitch their pics in a competition with a difference
Maesteg Town Hall will play host to the town’s first ever 24-hour Photomarathon from 12 noon on Saturday 7 July until 12 noon on Saturday 8 July.
Participants of all ages and abilities will have to take a photograph to represent 10 different topics in order, which they will be given on the first morning of the event.
At the start of the challenge, each entrant will have their phone or camera and memory card checked and verified.
At the end of the Photomarathon, all the images will be collated and printed, before a panel of judges meet to decide the winning photograph from each topic.
Prizes will be awarded for the best interpretation of the topics and have been kindly donated by local shops and businesses.
Every one of the photographs – hundreds of them – will then be displayed at a free public exhibition at Maesteg Town Hall on Saturday 14 July.
Andre Van Wyk, Arts Development Officer at Awen Cultural Trust, the charity which manages Maesteg Town Hall on behalf of Bridgend County Borough Council, said:
“Photomarathon is a global phenomenon with 74 competitions worldwide, including Melbourne, Hong Kong, Toronto, Argentina and now Maesteg! Our event is open to anyone with a digital camera or phone, who just want to have lots of fun taking pictures of their local community. I am looking forward to seeing the imagination and creativity of everyone involved and seeing how they capture the essence of the Llynfi Valley through a lens.”
“Maesteg Photomarathon is part of the ‘Ein Neuadd, Ein Stori’ / ‘Our Hall, Our Story’ community engagement project, which will celebrate and share Maesteg’s heritage, history, stories and memories, as told by local groups and people, which we can weave into the redevelopment plans for the Town Hall. We are grateful to Arts Council of Wales, Heritage Lottery Fund and Bridgend County Borough Council for supporting this project.
Maesteg Photomarathon costs just £2 to enter and the first 80 entrants will receive a free t-shirt when they arrive on the morning.
